Spring Activities – from our list of 101 Things to Do

Fields of daffodils, tulips and iris. Snow-capped mountains against bright blue sky. Lush green fields as they burst into life. There’s a reason why La Conner (and the Skagit Valley) is one of Washington State’s most-visited vacation destinations. It’s simply stunning here in spring! The air has warmed a bit, the gray skies clear to reveal an expansive valley looking all the way to Vancouver, B.C. and the surrounding waters set off this ever-changing landscape. Whether you’re a photographer (professional or amateur), an artist, a flower, bicycle or motorcycle enthusiast – our valley is magical. Driving or riding through our fields will become one of your favorite spring trips.

While you’re here, below is a list of things you might do. It’s by no means a complete list – stop anyone you meet and ask them what their favorite La Conner springtime must-do’s are … and you’ll hear all sorts of ideas!

  • Tip-toe through our acres of daffodils (March) and tulips (April) and enjoy the famous Tulip Festival during the month of April. Gorgeous display gardens.  Skagit Valley Tulip Festival
  • Enjoy the fun of La Conner’s Tulip Frolic Parade. Fun and whimsy for everyone!
  • Take a Seaplane flight excursion during April – the fields of flowers are simply stunning from the air!
  • Join the Swinomish Tribe for an Earth Day celebration in April. Help add to the beauty of the Northwest, and enjoy a salmon lunch and cultural activities.  Swinomish Tribe
  • Bring your camera and binoculars to the Skagit Valley – while the Trumpeter Swans and Snow Geese may have left our valley by now, bird-watching is still amazing. Watch for nesting bald eagles and herons. Skagit Audubon Society
  • Grab your bike, get a map from either the La Conner Chamber of Commerce or download it here and get out on the road. Between the scenery and the fresh air, we’re pretty sure you’ll have an exceptional ride … whether it’s a 2-mile spin or an all-day scenic excursion.
  • Take in classical concert at Maple Hall, sponsored by the La Conner Institute for Performing Arts.
  • Dress up your boat and join in the Opening Day Boat Parade in May, then use La Conner as your starting point for a trip north through the Channel and on to the San Juan Islands.
  • Visit the various poets during the bi-annual Skagit River Poetry Festival held in May. (Next festival is in May of 2012)
